In Windows Server 2012 NIC Teaming, you get to finally have nic teaming functionality built in. The built-in NIC teaming is extremely easy to configure, set and manage. Another important point to make here is that it also supports multiple vendors in the same NIC team.
Let’s take a look at how we would configure and build a NIC team in Windows Server 2012 from Server Manager and Powershell. First let’s show how to configure a NIC team from Server Manager:
Open Server Manager then go to the “All Servers” section.
Right click on the server in the right side server section then click the “Configure NIC Teaming” option.
The NIC teaming window will open which will be divided in three sections. Click the “Tasks” drop-down in the “TEAMS” area then click “New Team”.
The “New Team” screen will appear. In this screen you’ll need to add the name for the NIC team, select the network adapters that are to be apart of the NIC team, and modify any of the “Advanced properties” if necessary. Then click OK.
The NIC team will be built and when it’s done you should see a status for the NIC team as “OK” as shown below.
If you take a look at your network connections you’ll also notice that the NIC team as a different icon than your typical single ethernet adapters do.
