VMwares ESX Server 4 and vCenter Server 4

There’s lots of hype about VMware new major version of ESX which has changed name to vSphere 4.0 and Virtual Center which is changing it’s name as well to vCenter Server 4. vCenter Server 4 will also be able to run under linux according to Alessandro Perilli in a blog from virtualization.info.

New features for ESX 4 which is now in beta are:

– Clustered VirtualCenter Servers
– ESX hosts profile management
– Cross-hosts virtual networking
– 8-way virtual SMP
– Virtual machines fault tolerance across multiple hosts

– Alarms on physical hardware faults
– Access control on storage resources
– Configuration change tracking
– Full support for SATA local storage
