In this post we continue with setting up and managing the Hyper-V server core system. Now in order to manage the server core system remotely we need to install the Hyper-V management tools on another server that has a GUI.
To do this open up Server Manager –> Manage –> Add Roles and Features.
Click Next on the “Before you begin” screen.
Keep the default “Role-based or feature-based installation” then click Next on the “Installation type” screen.
Verify you have the correct server selected then click Next on the “Server selection” screen.
We will not be installing a server role at this time so click Next on the “Server roles” screen.
On the “Features” screen scroll down until you find the “Remote Server Administration Tools” then expand it out. Also expand the “Role Administration Tools”. Then expand the “Hyper-V Management Tools”. Select both the “Hyper-V GUI Management Tools” and the “Hyper-V Module for Windows Powershell”. Click Next.
Confirm the installation selections then click Install.
Close once the installation is complete.
Now lets click “Tools” in Server Manager to verify that the “Hyper-V Manager” is now installed.
We can’t manage the Hyper-V host uninstall the Hyper-V role is installed on it and that’s what we’ll do in the next post.
Here a video of how to install the Hyper-V management features.[vsw id=”K4UI4ENknGs” source=”youtube” width=”500″ height=”344″ autoplay=”no”]
