TechEd Keynote for the Adult in Me, WWDC Keynote for the Kid in Me

After watching the keynote for WWDC today something came to mind. It was of a commercial but it took awhile for me to actually remember what it was actually about. All I could remember was that it pleased the adult and the kid in a person. I thought about this because of how excited I felt after seeing some of the things announced by Apple that dealt with OS X Mavericks and IOS7 which made me feel like a little kid in a candy store!

Then I thought of last week when I saw the keynote and some of the sessions about Windows Server 2012 R2, plus every else R2, at TechEd 2013. They had excited me but not in the same way as the Apple keynote. This made sense to me because most of what had excited me at TechEd dealt with the enterprise(work). And the Apple keynote was more geared towards the consumer(me and you). Even the new features in Windows 8.1 dealt more with the enterprise than it did with the consumer.

Could I be the only one that had this feeling? As a consumer, Microsoft doesn’t really have anything for me. In the past, my main desktop operating system was Linux before I changed to Mac OSX. I’m not saying that I hate the Windows desktop. I just feel that it’s only true use is as a desktop for work at work. I know it can do more but the only reason I use a Windows desktop is for those applications that only work on Windows like MS Visio. Take my opinion as just that because I own a Mac Pro, an iPad Mini and an iPhone so I may be a bit tainted by Apple.

With that said, I have worked with Windows Server and desktop products for most of years in technology. This could be why I associate the two as I mentioned. Did I mention that I bought a Surface RT and Pro at TechEd? They were the first devices in years that I have purchased personally that runs a Windows OS. But they were priced to move at $99 for the 64GB RT and $399 for the 128GB Pro.

As for that commercial, it was “The Kid in You” Kellogg Frosted Mini-Wheats that I had thought of.
